Singapore Variety Stamp : Year 2012

Singapore Stamp : A Celebration of Culture and Heritage – Festivals 2012 Issue

A postage stamp design error is a mistake made during the design phase of the postage stamp production process. Design errors most commonly occur as minor mistakes, such as a missing letter in the binomial name of an organism depicted on the stamp, but some have been major gaffes, such as a map appearing to lay claim to another country’s territory, or the depiction of the wrong person on the stamp.

For the modern countries like Singapore nowadays, it is not common to see the “Design Error” stamp as every stage is verified carefully before it release to the public. On 16 October 2012, SingPost issue stamps on Singapore festivals, the four main festivals are: Christmas, Deepavali, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1st Local (left) and 55c (Right) Stamps

However, there are major errors between two stamps: Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1st local versus 55c stamp, if we consider 55c stamp is the reference and act simultaneously, you will find strange and no logic from the angle of view:

Design Error Stamps

1st stamp error 1    : Small kid should stand inside the house.

1st stamp error 2    : Small kid stand at the left side of the door, pose of the kid’s hand not tally with the 55c stamp.

1st stamp error 3    : Green Songkok (cap) kid is facing wrong direction.

1st stamp error 4    : Theoretically, face of small girl is unable to see because she is backward to the door.

1st stamp error 5    : Mosque location reverse. (Taller tower should be at right side)

1st stamp error 6  : Luckily, the moon position is correct? No! The crescent moon position is fixed on sky no matter you view indoor or outdoor. The fact is: moon is too far from earth, people always observe the same pattern unless the distance is far enough.

Observer: Angle of view

Alternatively, you may find the same mistake on the 55c if consider 1st Local stamp as a reference.

Overall, it simply mean stamps no error separately, but when we put these two stamps together then it is weird. Although we do not know if the above is really a cause of error, but SingPost withdraw some balance of festival series stamps  from some branches few days later.
